Should I crossfire my 6870 or just wait for the new ati card ?

I'm sure their will be other some improvements but the primary difference between northern islands (HD6XXX) and southern Islands is a die shrink. though since you already have 1 6970 it wont hurt to wait a few months to see how those cards turn out. I'm still on the wall myself.

All I know is that as soon as the 1st 7K ati card drops, then it will cost 800 bucks, and the 6990 will drop to 350, and thats when will swoop in for the kill.... or get two 6970's for even CHEAPER and crossfire them. Screw spending nearly a grand on one PC part.

Cobra, I would get the second 6870 and crossfire them. It's what i'm running at the moment and with the second card you get 100% upscaling in most modern games (if not at least 80%)

I know I will be comfortable for BF3 having tested beta and it's a lot cheaper and a quick fix for release!

    Just my 2 cents mate.

Slight overkill but Corsair HX1050W - The crossfire of these will happily run on an 850w, I just wanted headroom for upgrades!

    Glad to be of help.

won't really do you alot of good to crossfire you GC in BF3 since there are 0 profiles for BF3 so the extra card will do work but not as much work as need by having a crossfire profile.

Well duh there aren't any profiles yet for the full game. The game isn't released yet. Oh, and there WERE CrossfireX profiles for the beta.

    http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pa ... river.aspx

    AMD Catalyst 11.10 Preview driver:

    · Improves performance in Battlefield 3 Open Beta release for both non-Anti-Aliasing, and application enabled Anti-Aliasing cases on the AMD Radeon™ HD 6000 and AMD Radeon™ HD 5000 Series for single GPU configurations

    · Improves performance in Battlefield 3 Open Beta release for both non-Anti-Aliasing, and application enabled Anti-Aliasing cases on CrossFire configurations using the AMD Radeon™ HD 6000 and AMD Radeon™ HD 5000 Series

So yes, it came with CrossfireX profiles :P

just thought id bring this back from the dead, turns out that these cards have been delayed till Q1 of 2012, but it seems that the architecture has been reworked along with the die shrink. the 7970 is suppose to be faster then the 6990. but then again this is AMD and after bulldozer id take that with a grain of salt.

Sometimes measuring the bottleneck can be interpreted in so many ways. The only Thing ATI can render better then Nvidia is BSoD.
