I was looking at Hard Drive prices 2 weeks ago and I was like "What?....These prices cannot be right..Some drives have more then tripled their original price.." Until I came across this article: http://semiaccurate.com/2011/11/03/western-digital-and-samsung-suspend-disk-drive-shipments/

Just in case anyone else was wondering, I thought that I'd post this. Hopefully they came find some parts because these prices are ridiculous.

Look at this: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5758911&Sku=TSD-2000EARS
WD 2TB Green was $60, now its $250
and this: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7281716&Sku=TSD-500AAKX
WD 500GB Blue was $40, now its $110

Yeah the prices are getting rediculous. I want to get 3 750GB-1TB WD Black 64mb cache drives for raid 5 but not paying the prices they want.

It is caused by a flood in Thailand or Taiwan.. Dont remember, but 50% of the factories are down. The high prises is because the demand is high, and the availability is low.
(What I have heard)

the price hike is expected to last for 6-months and only effects HDD. western digital is the one most effected since all there plants were located in Thailand.

I just read in Maximum PC that floods in Thailand has caused a lot of the hdd factories to shut down, causing massive shortages.

Prices are starting to go down.. very slowly.. Now Im seeing some HDDs $10-70 cheaper then those outrageous prices. But the prices are still crazy.
